This is the official advice from Addenbrooke’s Hospital (updated in the last 24 hours):
The NHS in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.
The latest information on symptoms of coronavirus infection and areas where recent travel may have resulted in a high risk of exposure can be found on nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19
Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
- a high temperature
- a new continuous cough
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy, or hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.
Call 111 or use the NHS 111 online service if:
- you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- your condition gets worse
- your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
External isolation pods have been set up at the hospitals in response to the outbreak. NHS England has ordered all hospitals with A&E departments and minor injury units to install the external pods to keep suspected coronavirus patients away from other patients.
The facilities are now available on the grounds of Doddington Hospital in Doddington, near March, the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely and North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech.
If feeling unwell, patients will be advised to get themselves to their nearest facilities after speaking to the NHS 111 clinician. Arrangements will then be made for swabs and tests to be carried out for coronavirus.
How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus:
DO:
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- always wash your hands when you get home or into work
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
- try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
DON’T:
- do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
