On 21-22 March, the south Cambridgeshire village of Thriplow hosts its 47th annual Daffodil Weekend, featuring activities, stalls and swathes of cheerful blooms round every winding corner.
Each year, up to 10,000 people visit Thriplow for this quintessential village fete. Local residents will be opening up their gardens and serving tea and homemade cake, and there’s a beer tent, live music and sheepdog demonstrations also planned.
Despite reports that daffodils are late this year thanks to the cold weather since Christmas, organisers are confident the village will be in bloom in time for the festival.
Speaking today, 5 March, Daniel Murton from the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend committee said: “Over the years we have planted early, mid and late varieties to make sure our visitors always enjoy the daffodils on the verges and in gardens. We have the first blooms coming through now and it looks as if we are due some warmer weather over the next 10 days. That should really help things along.”
The event runs 11am-5pm both days and a £5 entry charge (£2.50 children) will be donated to the Beads of Courage child cancer support programme at Addenbrooke’s.
