Best known for their epic 80s hit The Final Countdown, Europe were one of the most successful rock acts of the decade, shifting over 20 million albums worldwide. All the band’s original members will be performing on the night.
Says the band’s frontman Joey Tempest: “This is going to be amazing – to be playing with Black Star Riders is going to make for THE tour of the spring – I just can’t wait to get back on the road!”
Starting with two nights in Glasgow and culminating with two nights at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire, the tour will feature classic tracks from both bands, including Europe’s 2012 album Bag of Bones, plus music from both acts forthcoming new releases.
Black Star Riders comprises Thin Lizzy members Scott Gorham (guitar), Ricky Warwick (vocals) and Damon Johnson (guitar), alongside drummer Jimmy DeGrasso and new bass player Robbie Crane. They released their debut album All Hell Breaks Loose in 2013 with a UK national chart placing of number 25 and many publications praising the release and giving it the 2013 Album of the Year accolade.
Says Scott: “When the idea of touring with Europe was presented we jumped at the chance. This is going to be a great tour and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the new album’s touring schedule.”
Let’s take a moment to enjoy Europe in their heyday performing The Final Countdown (still an absolute stonker of a tune – and the perms are pretty brilliant too):
See them on 11 March, 7.30pm; tickets £28.50.
