Films, food and alfresco shopping the Market Square
After a hugely successful debut in May, Cambridge BID and Cambridge City Council have announced that they’re hosting a second night market event on 21 July. Taking place in the very heart of the city centre in the Market Square, the event runs from 6.30pm and will feature cinema screenings, food and drink and a host of stalls.
Sit back on a deckchair and enjoy kids classic Toy Story or smash hit musical Mamma Mia, which will be shown on a huge screen outside the Guildhall. Then, grab something delicious to eat and drink from one of the food vendors, who’ll be serving up treats all evening. More than 50 local businesses will be setting up stalls on the night, creating a continental style alfresco shopping experience, and selling everything from clothing to gifts.
“We are seeking to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that everyone can enjoy,” says Becky Burrell, marketing and commercial manager at Cambridge BID. “This time round we have booked a special LED screen that will be visible both in daylight and as night falls, which will allow us to show two films.”
“The first night market was a resounding success; it was wonderful to see so many people come out for the evening” she continues. “Everyone made the most of the family-friendly atmosphere, enjoyed the live entertainment and appreciated the fantastic wares of many local stallholders. Similar events for August and September are already being planned, in association with the City Council, and we will be announcing these soon.
Toy Story will start at approximately 6.30pm and Mamma Mia will follow at 8.30pm.
