Cinema classics outdoors in the area, or a galaxy far, far away
Enchanted Cinema strikes back for 2018 with a free outdoor screening of Star Wars: the Last Jedi for the return of the popular series of alfresco screenings in and around Cambridge.
Catch Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Rey and Finn on Star Wars day – May the 4th for those without the force – at the Red Lion in Grantchester, at 8.30pm. Local filmmaker Ryd Cook’s short Single to London will be shown at 8.20, with live acoustic sets from Harri Beasley and Tom Petit from 7pm. So snuggle up under the stars and enjoy the magic of the silver screen. It’s first come first served, so get there early to reserve your deckchair.
Creating beautiful, vintage-inspired cinema experiences at locations around Cambridge, guests can relax in deckchairs, drink in hand, soaking up the fairy lit magic of the surroundings while they enjoy great films old and new.
Enchanted Cinema has been steadily building its following for the last few years, and this time its back at one of its very favourite locations, the hidden garden at the Gonville Hotel, just opposite Parker’s Piece. It will also be popping up at Burwash Manor, Brewboard Brewery in Harston and Anstey Hall, and there’s a star-studded line-up of cinematic gems to catch across the board.
Next up, though no longer free, is this year’s Oscar-winning film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, at Burwash Manor on 25 May. Francis McDormand (who also won an Oscar) plays a mother determined that the mystery surrounding her daughter’s death will be investigated properly by the local police force.
Step back to the 80s and be swooned by Patrick Swayze when Dirty Dancing screens at the Gonville Hotel on 26 May, while the hotel also hosts another film up for this year’s top Oscar, The Shape of Water, on 27 May. It’s an adult fairytale from Guillermo del Toro – it couldn’t get more enchanting than this on the big screen.
Later in the summer catch Blade Runner and Pulp Fiction at Brewboard, The Great Gatsby, Grease and more at the Gonville, La La Land and Romeo & Juliet at Anstey Hall and and a range of family-friendly films at Burwash Manor.
