Haddenham Arts Centre has got plenty in store over this half term holiday
Starting this Saturday, Haddenham Arts Centre’s half term calendar is jam-packed with arts events to keep the whole family busy for the week – whether you want to get crafty, learn some new skills, or are just looking to be entertained for an afternoon.
On Saturday 29 May, you can catch the samba drumming and percussion games workshop, hosted by The Library Presents (tickets must be booked online). After the bank holiday, potter Hilary Kemp will be at the centre on Tuesday 1 June, offering 45-minute clay workshops where you can create your own clay rat. Wednesday 2 June sees the rat theme continue, with a finger puppet-making session in the afternoon.

Alongside the new ‘Flights of Fancy’ exhibition by James Marsh, you can come along and learn to make your own origami crane on Thursday 3 June, with help from HAC studio artist Laura Pearson-Clark. The cranes will then all be arranged to create a colourful celebratory community display.
Friday 4 June will feature a session of story-telling and poetry reading by John Lyons, who will delve into the magic and mystery of folklore in his life as a boy growing up in Trinidad and Tobago. And finally, on Saturday 5 June, the Norwich Puppet Theatre will be paying a visit to perform The Pied Piper – a humorous one-person show combining puppetry, foot-tapping music and storytelling to offer an enchanting experience for all ages. Tickets for the performance cost £3, and can be purchased at the venue.
There’s also Haddenham Arts Centre’s Open Weekend to look forward to on 12 and 13 June. Om Saturday 12 June, catch the handmade art market, where you can browse, meet the makers and buy directly from many talented local and regional artists – plus there’ll be live music throughout the day, from the Pennyless folk duo. Then on Sunday 13 June, it’s the Eco Family Festival, with a jam-packed day of activities and workshops for the whole family to enjoy. Cambridge Greenwood will be in the building, so you can try your hand at willow weaving, and there will be plenty of wildlife and conservation activities to enjoy – including Japanese flower printing. Food and drink will be available from the Haddenham Arts Centre cafe across the weekend, and you can also pre-book a vegan picnic from Lucy at The Power Plant for the Eco Family Festival on the Sunday.
