Once again, our region has provided rich pickings for the judges of the Great Taste Awards, with East Anglian producers winning 268 accolades from a total of 5,383 winners from across the globe. The esteemed awards value taste above all other factors, with the judges focusing solely on a product’s texture, appearance, composition and flavour – and not factors such as branding or packaging. The panel is made up of food experts like chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers and writers, who go through a rigorous blind taste testing, which this year saw them sample more than 14,000 entries from 108 countries.
Flying the flag for Cambridgeshire were local favourites including Linden Leaf Botanicals, which scooped Great Taste Awards for its Cocktail Elements spray garnish range, as well as OliveOlive, which picked up a gong for its extra virgin olive oil. The Gog’s scotch eggs were recognised, too, as were The Baking Jin’s gluten-free orange chiffon cake and
Orriss & Son’s Even Flow hot chilli sauce.
