Cambridge-based Katie Matthews decided to retrain as a humanist wedding celebrant after watching two of her friends get married in a gorgeously fun and funny ceremony. Her previous profession as a journalist for a trade magazine now long behind her, she’s built up a wealth of experience creating non-religious, completely bespoke wedding ceremonies that tell a couple’s love story in a creative, captivating way. The beauty of the humanist route is that you’re free to have fun and celebrate where and how you choose. That could be a mid-ceremony shot of tequila, a brass band springing from behind the scenes at the moment of pronouncement (both of which have happened in Katie’s weddings…), or any other magical moments you can dream up. A fantastic writer and speaker, Katie also imparts her wisdom in speech-writing workshops for brides-to-be, helping build confidence and craft a knockout script.
