Blooming Marvellous
Local company Copper and Bloom wants to forge a new nuptial path, giving clients beautiful, imaginative weddings to perfectly capture their unique characters. The business is run by Jess, who can assist with anything from a full planning service to a bit of styling help or event coordination on the day itself. Copper and Bloom also offers prop hire, renting out accessories such as vintage brass candlesticks and apothecary vases. A quick look at the website highlights Jess’ many talents, showcasing both elegant, classical ceremonies and colourful, contemporary celebrations.
Celebrant Good Times
Cambridge-based Katie Matthews decided to retrain as a humanist wedding celebrant after watching two of her friends get married in a gorgeously fun and funny ceremony. Her previous profession as a journalist for a trade magazine now long behind her, she’s built up a wealth of experience creating non-religious, completely bespoke wedding ceremonies that tell a couple’s love story in a creative, captivating way. The beauty of the humanist route is that you’re free to have fun and celebrate where and how you choose. That could be a mid-ceremony shot of tequila, a brass band springing from behind the scenes at the moment of pronouncement (both of which have happened in Katie’s weddings…), or any other magical moments you can dream up. A fantastic writer and speaker, Katie also imparts her wisdom in speech-writing workshops for brides-to-be, helping build confidence and craft a knockout script.
’Til Death Do Us Party
If the traditional L-plates, sashes and phallic straws of a hen party fill you with dread (we don’t blame you), and you’re in search of a more sophisticated way to see off singledom, check out the Varsity Hotel. You and your group can enjoy massages and riverside hot tubs at the on-site Glassworks Gym and Spa, roof terrace drinks, and dinner at one of the hotel’s two restaurants (the River Bar Steakhouse or Six Brasserie on the sixth floor), while the modern, characterful bedrooms make it a great all-in-one destination for a weekender. The location on Quayside means you are perfectly placed for hitting the bars and clubs of the city centre, not to mention a stone’s thrown from punting – which any self-respecting Cambridge hen party simply must include.
