For those devoted to vinyl or looking to catch a local gig, Record Store Day has much to offer
Taking place this year on Saturday 18 June, Record Store Day has become a glittering date in the diary for music fans. A day when over 260 independent turntable retailers unite to celebrate their cultural importance, many special releases are made to mark the day.
The night before, expect early-rising queues winding down the city streets and, in the day, a bustling shopping experience punctuated by live performances and conversations with other vinyl lovers.
We’ve rounded up what’s going on across Cambridge, sure to fulfil all of your record store day desires.
Vinyl Revival
At this village record store staple in the heart of St Neots, their celebrations will take place “al fresco” under a gazebo, with more second-hand bargains to be found outdoors. Live music will take place around lunchtime in their gardens. Doors will be flung open at 8.30am.
Relevant Records
Celebrating their eighth record store day, a full list of what’s available will be published online the day before so you can come prepared – be warned, records won’t be available to browse so you’ll need to know what you’re after beforehand. Above the basement, bands will be playing in the Relevant Record Café to keep those queueing entertained. Head on down to the café at 6am for coffee and cake while you wait for the store to open at 8am.
Lost in Vinyl
Opening from 8am on Saturday, everything from Harry Styles to Honeyglaze can be nabbed at this nine-year-old record store – expect queues well past the door down Magdalene Street. If you miss out, there’s still hope! Leftovers will go on sale at 8pm on Friday 29 April.
