Pick up a rare artwork by the secretive Cambridge street artists this month
Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip star Charles Hanson will be conducting the Grand Arcade’s first ever charity auction later this month. The auction will take place on 26 January, seeing eight Dinky Presents – which are currently hidden around Grand Arcade – go under the hammer, offering people the rare opportunity to own a piece of quirky Cambridge history!
The Dinky Presents pieces are the brainchild of Dinky Doors – Cambridge’s most elusive street artists. These renegade artists were pictured fleeing the Grand Arcade over the festive period after hiding a series of artworks around the shopping centre.
The maverick artists are believed to have made a speedy getaway, despite the best efforts of centre security, pictured above. The duo – whose identity is unknown to the public – are still on the run and have been rumoured to be in talks over future creations.
Proceeds from the auction later this month will be split between Cambridge Street Aid and the Dinky artists – so more Dinky Doors can be made for people in the city to enjoy.
The lots will be available to view online from 12 January. Anyone can register their interest to virtually attend the live auction via Eventbrite. Four top secret lots will also be revealed on the 12th.
Julie Kervadec, marketing manager at Grand Arcade said: “Despite the best efforts of all involved, those pesky artists escaped the centre unscathed. They left several pieces of invaluable artwork in their wake. We have decided to leave the Dinky Presents hidden around the centre until 23 January, for the city to enjoy.”
