A-level and GCSE exams this summer are a crucial milestone in a student’s academic journey. This year, there are three additional reasons for students to maximise their potential and boost their grades.
Why 2023 is the year that Easter revision is more important than ever:
1. The return to pre-pandemic grade boundaries
The pandemic had a huge impact on education. Online lessons, cancelled exams and ironically, endless testing of a different kind unsettled both students and parents. Assessed grades were used as a proxy for exams, with many more top grades awarded. But that means a return to ‘normal’ grade boundaries this year, with comparatively fewer top grades available.
2. More competition for sixth form and university places
The number of 18-year olds in the UK is surging, rising by 11,000 in 2023, and continuing to grow until the end of the decade. This means tougher competition for sixth form and university places, evidenced already this year with many students exceeding the requisite grades for an offer but falling short of a place, simply because there aren’t enough.
3. Lack of exposure to formal exam settings
This year’s cohort of A-level students missed out on two years’ worth of mocks and exams. When they sit down to their exams, they will inevitably do so with a deficit of experience compared to their predecessors. As a result, many students will approach their exams with trepidation, fear even. These are the students who need a confidence boost to help them unlock their true academic potential.
Cleary 2023 is shaping up to be a vital year for students to maximise their potential. That’s where Mander Portman Woodward’s (MPW) Easter revision courses can help.
MPW is one of the UK’s leading independent fifth and sixth form college groups. It has been delivering Easter revision courses for over 30 years, offering a wide range of subjects at both A-level and GCSE and helping students to take their revision up a gear, building understanding and confidence.
