The Big Switch on takes place across Cambridge this weekend, 15 and 16 November, and there’s lots planned for both days. There’ll be fun at the Grafton Centre with kids TV favourites Ben and Holly on the Saturday from 2pm, as well as appearances from Santa and his helpers. We’ll also get to hear the winner of the Cambridge Has Talent competition perform plus lots more, with the the Grafton lights getting switched on at 4.30pm.
The fun continues on Sunday from midday with circus performers dotted throughout the city centre, including jugglers and acrobatic penguins (!). Four stages located in the Grafton Centre, Lion Yard, Grand Arcade and the Market Square, will host performances from local dance, music and theatre groups including Sin Cru Break Dancers, Razzamataz Performing Arts, The Rock Choir, Abbey Ward Glee Club and last year’s winner of Cambridge Has Talent ‘Music & Spies’.
Finally, Thom Evans will arrive in central Cambridge to turn on the city’s lights, which stretch across 22 streets in the city centre, in the Market Square at 5pm Sunday.
The event is being organised by Cambridge BID, a collaboration of more than 1,000 businesses working together to promote and improve the city centre. Cambridge BID are giving away a prize a day in association with the Big Switch On, including a £50 Grafton Centre Gift Voucher, family tickets for The North Pole open-air ice skating rink at Parkers Piece and two tickets for the Classic Cambridge Food Tour worth over £100.
