Cambridge is fast becoming a destination that our four-legged friends can enjoy just as much as us. From dining to punting, there are plenty of options for a fun day out with your dog
Park & Ride
Accessing the city with your pooch has never been easier. The network of Park & Ride buses allows you to travel with dogs for free – as long as they ride on the floor! Buses run from five city sites, while tickets cost as little as £3 for a return. Children travel free when accompanied by an adult.
Scudamore’s
Take time to enjoy a journey down the riverbank with man’s best friend by your side. Scudamore’s Punting loves nothing more than having furry friends on its trips. You can choose between punting tours, or hire a whole punt for your canine companions.
A Starbucks Puppuccino
The secret is finally out: your pup can pick up a puppuccino at Starbucks branches across the city – all you need to do is ask! It’s nothing too fancy, just a cup of whipped cream. But boy, your four-legged friend will love you for it. It’s usually free of charge, but the baristas may insist on fussing over your canine companion in return.
A Spot of Shopping
More and more retailers are welcoming dogs into their shops, giving you the opportunity to browse and shop without the guilt of leaving your animal behind. John Lewis recently announced that canines are allowed in all its branches. In Cambridge, you can browse many a boutique with your pup, too.
Metro Bank
A pawfect option for doting pup parents, Metro Bank on St Andrew’s Street enthusiastically welcomes dogs in branch while you do your banking. It even provides water bowls, treats and branded bandanas!
Eating and Drinking
You are spoilt for hospitality choices in Cambridge. Head to King Street, where The Cambridge Brew House and Champion of the Thames will give your pup a warm welcome, or perhaps wander to Regent Street, where Novi very happily accommodates them. If you find yourself near the train station, Station Tavern offers afternoon tea for pups. So, why not sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere, safe in the knowledge that your dog is being treated like a true VIP (Very Important Pup)?
Staying Over
If you’re planning a longer visit with your pooch, there are plenty of choices for overnight accommodation. The Hilton Cambridge City Centre on Downing Street allows you to bring dogs, as will the Ibis on Station Square, Gonville Hotel opposite Parker’s Piece, and Hotel du Vin on Trumpington Street.
Walks
Cambridge is blessed with a number of green spaces that you can walk your pooch along, including Parker’s Piece, Christ’s Pieces and the riverbank. Accessible to all, these are perfect locations to give your dog a chance to stretch their legs.
