Walking isn’t just a form of exercise; it can be a means of escape. This local group is keen to get you involved
During lockdown, many people turned to walking as a way of keeping fit, de-stressing and just getting out of the house. As a free and easy way to stay active, it’s no wonder that walking has become such a popular pastime, and there’s a group of local volunteers hoping to make that pastime permanent.
The Stag Walkers Ramblers group is a group aimed at people in their 20s and 30s, providing support and safety advice so that everyone can enjoy walking around their local area responsibly. The friendly and sociable group operates across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and offers a variety of walks and social events run by a small number of volunteers.
Chair of Stag Walkers, Rebecca Dawson, said: “a lot of our members have been out on solo walks during lockdown and have shared their routes and photos with each other. We have gained several new members in the last few months who are keen to get out walking and we have recently started running organised walks again with social distancing measures in place.”
Ramblers members can access over 3,000 walking routes across the country via the group’s website and app. The ever-growing collection of Ramblers Routes was developed by walkers, for walkers, and includes options for walkers of all levels of experience.
