Do you know how to deliver CPR? Are you aware of where your nearest defibrillator is? These are life-saving skills, and you never know when they might prove useful
There are approximately 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year in the UK and in 2019, the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) attended 478 cardiac arrests across our region alone, taking critical care to the scene and helping these patients get the very best treatment.
The survival rate of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest almost trebles with early CPR and further increases with early use of a defibrillator. Therefore, more lives could be saved each year if more members of the public knew how to perform CPR and were confident in using a defibrillator.
The EAAA’s mission is simple – it wants to save more lives and minimise the impact of trauma and medical emergencies in the community. It doesn’t just do this by attending the most critically ill or injured patients in its helicopter, the EAAA also has a dedicated CPR and first aid training team, which is headed up by Mark Milsom, a critical care paramedic with more than 20 years’ clinical experience. Mark is utilising his skills and experience of delivering life-saving care when flying with the charity to provide hands-on training and expert advice out in the community to help save more lives
