Reach Ride, the family cycle ride, is back on May Day Bank Holiday
Grab your bike and some friends and join in the Reach Ride – a huge-scale group cycle, which takes place on bank holiday Monday, 6 May. Beginning at The Guildhall (10am departure) and ending at the historic Reach Fair, the route is 29 miles in total and open to all ages.
The peloton will pull up in time for the mayor’s opening of the fair, which is more than 800 years old, at noon, and then you’ll be free to enjoy all the fun of this ancient event, from Maypole and Morris dancing to stalls, fairground rides and food and drink.
Last year more than 1,000 cyclists joined the ride, and it’s a really friendly atmosphere – with marshals along the route to help if you need any minor bike fixes. It’s open to all, but children under ten may find the full distance challenging – so you can always join at another point, such as Newmarket Road Park & Ride at 10.30am, which is where riders starting at Fulbourn (also at 10am) from the Hat and Rabbit pub, will join the group. The main group will pass the Green Dragon bridge at 10.15am, and you may also cycle from Ely.
Ely Cycling Campaign will take you along a scenic off-road route through the fens on NCN11. Meet at 9am at Ely station.
Once at Reach Fair, cycle parking is in a field on the left as you approach the village centre. Lock bikes together in groups, at your own risk.
The ride will return from Reach at 3pm, allowing you plenty of time to enjoy the fair.
