The Guardian has listed its top ten craft beer pubs in Cambridge – and we think they’ve got it pretty spot on.
The list includes a broad range of establishments, from traditional pubs to trendy, refurbished bars: a mark of Cambridge’s appreciation of both its heritage and changing tastes and innovations.
That craft beer is currently undergoing a renaissance is clear. This year it was added, for the first time, to the ‘nation’s shopping basket’ by the Office for National Statistics, which aims to paint an accurate picture of inflation and the nation’s shopping habits.

Vincent Castiglione, who runs the Maypole on Portugal Place, told Edition: “People come here because they want variety. If they want a cheap pint they can go to the supermarket; but we’re finding people are coming out less to get drunk and more for the taste and the experience.”
The Maypole sells 16 different real ales and has nine craft beers on keg, which are popular with both men and women alike. Adds Vincent: “We rotate our ales and represent a variety of local breweries like Milton, Buntingford and Moonshine. So there’s always a choice.”
