Burns Night, the celebration of Scotland’s great poet Robert Burns, takes place on 25 January. We might be more Fenland than Highland here in Cambridge, but there are a few options for enjoying the fun and feasting.
Have a wee dram at Cambridge Wine Merchants, which is hosting a Scottish whisky tasting with on-theme nibbles on the 25th at its Cherry Hinton Road branch, or head to The Mitre for a slap-up Scottish feast of haggis, neeps and tatties and traditional dessert cranachan. It’s available from 21 to 26 January.
Loch Fyne is also getting in on the fun with a feast that includes cullen skink (smoked haddock, potatoes and rye sourdough), queen scallops and smoked salmon.
BrewDog will be celebrating their roots with all things Scottish – Scottish music, Scottish beer, haggis food specials and more. Plus, anyone who turns up in a kilt or tartan trousers gets their first pint on the house!
There’s a special Burns Night menu on at The Petersfield pub, which even includes the option of veggie haggis, as well as a classic Scottish starter of smoked leek chowder and raspberry cranachan for dessert, of course. Parker’s Tavern will be offering a variety of hearty haggis dishes washed down with delicious whiskies as part of their Burns Supper.
Or how about heading to the Salisbury Arms, where you can work your way through a selection of whiskies, along with a traditional Scottish set menu. There will also be a Burns Night celebration at The Corner House, ending with a disco until the early hours.
