The team from La Latina Bustaurante show you how to make their famous tostones, aka crispy fried plantains

Ingredients:

Green plantain (as many as you want to eat!)

Rapeseed Oil

Salt to taste

Step-by-Step Guide:

Peel the plantains: the easiest way to do this is cut the edges and then use a knife to make shallow cuts all around to peel back the skin.

Cut the plantain into chunks of about 2.5cm.

Heat the oil to a medium high temperature – you need enough oil to cover the plantains – and fry until cooked. When ready, they’ll become yellow. It should take two to three minutes.

Take them out of the oil, and with the help of a tortilla press squeeze the plantain: you could also use two plates, or the bottom of a bowl to smash them and prevent the plantain from sticking.

Reheat the oil and fry the smashed plantain slices until gold: add salt to taste and enjoy! They are very good on their own, but even better with dips and toppings! Try avocado or sour cream.
