On a quiet residential street in Newnham, just a stone’s throw from the edge of Grantchester Meadows, is one of Cambridge’s best-kept foodie secrets. A place to buy amazing cheeses, fruit, veg, fresh bread, cakes and all sorts of other treats and gifts, it’s run by Suzannah Wansell – who dreamed of bringing her favourite producers together to create the ultimate neighbourhood deli. “All our food has been carefully sourced, tasted, tried and tested,” she says. “We can trust that it meets high quality and sustainability standards, because we are proud to call many of our suppliers friends. Our customers share our passion for food, and we swap cooking tips – they even come to know our suppliers by name and vice versa.”
Cheese is one of the top sellers (which makes sense as Suzannah is also the brains behind cheesemonger, Hum-closen), but the homemade goodies – ranging from cookies, to soups and salads – are also raved about. Meadows stocks products from firm local favourites like Jack’s Gelato, Allotment Bakery and Bumble & Oak, too, making it a must-visit for foodies around the city.
