The Lodge, Duxford
This chic courtyard is fully equipped with firepits, deckchairs and a large, cosy tipi – head along for Mediterranean-style food and a DJ at weekends. For a little more privacy, you can book a table in the unique glasshouses on the lawn, dining under the stars in style.
The Taproom
Just off the River Great Ouse in St Ives, The Taproom’s renovated courtyard garden is perfect to while away a sunny day. Whether you’re a sun worshipper or want to escape to the shade of the sleek new pergolas, the garden is open from breakfast to cocktail hour. The menu is packed with crowd-pleasers, from loaded fries to hearty pasta dishes, while its bottomless brunches are already legendary. Stop by for cocktails aplenty and delicious dishes on weekends.
Garden House, Cambridge
The Graduate hotel’s lush lawns on the banks of the Cam are the perfect spot for enjoying some alfresco fun this summer. As well as a huge cocktail list and speciality beers, the hotel will be serving up a BBQ menu and series of open-air cinema screenings this summer.
Red Lion, Hinxton
A historic 16th-century inn surrounded by an idyllic country garden, this Hinxton pub is a perfect setting for summer dining. Pull up a pew under the wisteria and enjoy seasonal sensations including gazpacho, octopus carpaccio and strawberry charlotte royale – all washed down with a glass of Pimm’s or Pellehaut rosé.
De Luca Cucina
A favourite for its hearty Italian cooking, this Regent Street restaurant has a hidden roof terrace overlooking Parker’s Piece. Indulgent pasta, freshly made pizza and lovely Italian wine with a view? Count us in!
The Varsity
One of the city’s most iconic open-air dining spots, the roof terrace at The Varsity Hotel boasts 360° panoramic views of Cambridge’s skyline. Sink into the sumptuous outdoor seating and drink in the view – as well as the delicious cocktails!
Gorilla & Lamb at the Cambridge Blue
Known for its selection of beers from around the world, the Cambridge Blue is home to one of the buzziest beer gardens around. We’ve been loving the addition of street food outfit Gorilla & Lamb, run by the team behind the equally popular Tzatziki, which serves up loaded fries, doughnuts, ice cream – and hands-down some of the best burgers in Cambridge. Our pick is the lip-smackingly good buffalo chicken!
The Gonville
Overlooking Parker’s Piece, the Terrace at The Gonville is the perfect spot to watch the world go by while enjoying drinks and a fabulous meal. Head chef Jamie DeCruz has created a menu that’s packed with sensational dishes, such as fresh burrata served with broad bean pesto and smoked almonds, plus there’s a great cocktail list to sample. Outdoor dining is available 12-8pm Friday and Saturday, 12-6pm Sunday.
The Tivoli
One of the most interesting additions to the scene, The Tivoli has been a big hit thanks to its street food, crazy golf course and roof terrace with river views. Pitch up for the afternoon, grab a few drinks on the deckchairs and watch the world go by.

Eddington’s aparthotel complex Turing Locke boasts one of the best outdoor spots in the city. Downstairs, there’s a sleek courtyard surrounded by lush greenery, while upstairs you’ll find the stunning roof terrace.
Limoncello
Specialising in authentic Italian eats, this Mill Road deli and cafe is a gorgeous spot on a summer’s day. There’s a covered courtyard out the back, where you can enjoy traditional Italian pizza and antipasti, plus some fabulous wines.

With flame-cooked feasts, an outdoor bar (in a vintage Airstream van) and a traditional stretch tent for shade while you dine, Provenance Kitchen in Whittlesford has it all. The kids can let off steam in the meadow, while the grown-ups enjoy amazing food and a glass of something cold.
