Some of the area’s top comedians, including members of the current Footlights, will join together for a night of comedy to raise funds for the Cambridge Calais Refugee Action Group.
Formed earlier this year by Cambridge residents concerned about the growing humanitarian migrant crisis, the group has been collecting supplies and organising convoys to Calais to help those living in one of the most notorious refugee camps in Europe.
The comedy evening, taking place at The Portland Arms on 16 November, will feature Geoff Norcott, a regular headliner at some of the UK’s top comedy clubs whose quick-witted anecdotal style recently earned him a writing commission for the Sarah Millican Television Programme and a new sitcom for Radio 4.
Joining him, and pictured above, is David Trent, a multi-media comedian who uses projectors, anger, withering wit and electric guitars to pick apart the absurdities of pop culture. He has been described by The Stage as ‘a creator of bold, category-defying comedy’ and by the Guardian as ‘a first rate comic mind’.
Also on the bill is Hannah Dunleavy, usually found firing her razor sharp wit at US election hopefuls, TV ballroom dancers and the thorniest of topical issues in cult online magazine Standard Issue. Expect wry observations on politics, religion and growing up in Newport Pagnell.
Also appearing will be special guests from Cambridge University’s renowned comedy troupe Footlights, fresh from their world tour.
Tickets are £10; 8pm start.
