We are 100% on board with the Early Night Club’s albeit geeky-sounding mantra of ‘sensible clubbing’, offering nights out for fun-loving parents who aren’t ready to hang up their dancing shoes, but need to get back in time for the babysitter.
Set up seven years ago by thirtysomethings in Cambridge, it’s proved an effective formula and was recently featured on ITV news, showing a dancefloor packed and jumpin’ at 9pm, rather than the usual 1am. The music is a mix of pop and rock classics, for fans of Michael Jackson, Blondie and the like.
There’s an Early Night event at La Raza on 22 October – with a difference. Fabulous local gin company Pinkster Gin will be holding a pop-up at the club, serving Early Nighters a free taster of their award-winning pink tipple.
Pinkster was set up in 2013, when the founder, Stephen Marsh found he had intolerance to wine and beer (horror!) and decided to experiment with a lighter, smoother tasting gin recipe. Now the gin is stocked locally by Cambridge Wine Merchants, Noel Young, Bacchanalia, Burwash Larder and Gog Magog Hills Farm Shop, and nationally. Pinkster is hand-steeped in fresh raspberries just outside Cambridge in the village of Barley and its distinctive bottle is cropping up on many a shelf locally and globally.
“All the best ideas are simple ones and I think that is true for both our event and Pinkster Gin,” says Alex Ruczaj, founder of the Early Night Club. “We’re delighted to team up with them on the 22nd – we think our clubbers will be big fans of the Pinkster and tonic. With a drink designed to be easier on the body, with all those natural botanicals, we like to think that together we’re offering people the perfect civilised night out, without the usual late night and horrible hangover!”
Head over from 7.30pm; tickets £9. Book here
