Interiors stylist Céline Bridier gives us the lowdown on the key interiors trends for Christmas this year.
Christmas 2020 is coming, and everyone is looking for ways to be happy and celebrate despite the pandemic. Are you looking to lift your spirits and create something magical, something unique? Christmas is a magical time full of wonder and light and for me, as an interior stylist, to create this magical atmosphere is to combine textures, colours, lights, smells, tastes, memories and expectations…
2020 offers a great variety of Christmas themes that will help you rediscover the joy and excitement of our childhood during this holiday. The trends in seasonal design and decorations are particularly rich this year, so let’s discover them:
TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS
Classic red, gold and green colours are always in style!
Because we are all staying at home more and 2020 has been such a challenging year, there’s been a move towards a very traditional Christmas trend with all the classic trimmings.
We all have a need for the traditions of the past
We all have a need for the traditions of the past, so think a big tree with lots of precious family ornaments and lights, and Christmas stockings on the mantel.
A traditional Christmas table can be dressed in layers of white porcelain plates (or your grandmother’s crockery for a really homely feel). Golden cutlery makes Christmas dinner feel even more special, and don’t forget the crystal glasses! You can add some finishing touches to your Christmas table with beautiful napkin rings, chic candleholders and a floral centrepiece.
PASTEL CHRISTMAS
This new 2020 trend is mainly composed of soft palette of colours such as blush, pink, warm neutrals, rose gold, silver and gold. A neutral faux fur rug under the tree will create texture, warmth and comfort for the kids to open the presents on Christmas day. Metal decorations are still sparkling but less shiny, and look even softer with a natural looking ageing.
Your Christmas ornaments should be composed of glass baubles (teal, blush, champagne, aged gold……), feathers and artificial or satin flowers to add some volume and definition.
This Christmas decorating idea is perfect to use if you want to create a calming, yet luxurious and special look in your home
This pastel trend evokes stories about magical and imaginary beings and lands, and this theme should be continued on to your table setting. Two tone white and blush table cloths, mint-coloured china, crystal glasses, gold candleholders, diamond printed placemats, feather napkin accessories…. and don’t forget the angels, fairies and birds!
This Christmas decorating idea is perfect to use if you want to create a calming, yet luxurious and special look in your home.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
Dreaming of a white Christmas? A key trend for 2020 is a perfect snowy white colour palette paired with minimalistic design. Faux snow, white blankets, a white faux fur rug next to the fire and classic glass ornaments are always a great choice when it comes to adding a touch of magic to your Christmas decorations.
The contemporary simplicity and sophistication of all-white Christmas decor will give your home an elegant feel
Bring the snowy look from your Christmas tree into the dining room with quality china tableware, crystal glasses, white and gold or green velvet ribbon. You can also place faux fur accessories on the dining chairs to add texture, white candles for a hint of warmth, and a centrepiece composed of birch and evergreen branches. The contemporary simplicity and sophistication of all-white Christmas decor will give your home an elegant feel, entwined with a subtly nostalgic touch.
