Continuing the legacy of The Beautiful South, The South is made up of several original members of the band including lead singers Dave Hemingway and Ali Wheeler. Apparently they were having too much fun to get out the pipe and slippers quite yet, so decided to drop the ‘Beautiful’ and continue making music simply as The South.
They released the acclaimed album Sweet Refrains last year and will be playing songs from this – plus classic hits such as Rotterdam, Perfect 10, and Don’t Marry Her – at their Cambridge gig, in celebration of the beautiful legacy of The Beautiful South.
A bit of history…
Formed in 1988 The Beautiful South had a string of hit singles such as Old Red Eyes Is Back, Rotterdam, Don’t Marry Her, Perfect 10 and number 1 single, A Little Time. Their greatest hits album, Carry On Up The Charts, was one of the fastest-selling albums in UK history, entering at Number 1 and staying there for weeks, becoming one of the country’s most popular albums ever.
