When I Was A Kid opened its doors in Trinity Street in October and has already generated a large following. Take a trip down memory lane and discover toys you remember, which have stood the test of time, such as wooden trainsets, catapults, cute retro robots and wendy houses.
The branch was established by Paul Warner, who describes the shop as: “a wonderful toy shop, capable of evoking memories of times past & creating magical memories for time to come. We continue to add to the magic with new stock & exciting things to see every day and in every way; nothing gives us greater pleasure.”
He adds: “Creating a new business isn’t easy, especially for an independent, family owned toy shop but for me, I never stop believing. Each and every customer that has walked through our doors experiences something special. When I Was a Kid is not just a normal toy shop, piled high with plastic toys & electronic gadgets, you know the ones, ‘on goes the switch; off goes the imagination’. When I Was a Kid is a wonder emporium of toys that will stimulate imaginations, conversations, interactions and good old fashioned fun. Each toy we stock is very carefully chosen & must fit these criteria!”
The store also specialises in Fairtrade and ‘green’ products – some which have been recycled from milk bottles! “Hand-painted, hand-crafted toys that provide employment in developing countries and Forestry Commission standard wooden toys, built to last and be loved, are just a snapshot of what makes When I Was a Kid special.”
Look out for their events too, which included pumpkin carving in October.
