A pay-what-you-want gourmet vegetarian feast gets Cambridge Pumpkin Festival underway on 22 October at Mill Road Baptist Church.
Starting at 7pm and using rescued food, Pip’s Pumpkin Pop-up is cooked up by chefs and other volunteers from Cambridge Foodcycle, who turn unwanted food into tasty veggie creations every Saturday lunchtime and alternate Wednesday evenings.
The event – which features live music from members of the Emma Big Band – is the launch for Cambridge Pumpkin Festival, an initiative of Cambridge Sustainable Food, which aims to make use of all those huge orange beasties and ghoulish creatures that come out at this time of year! Edition’s not sure quite how pumpkin-tastic the food will be at the very beginning of Halloween season, but the 22nd is bound to be a night to remember.
It’s a dining experience that’s taking the country by storm, with cuisine made from food rescued from local supermarkets and independent shops, prepared and cooked by Foodcycle chefs… and you pay what you think the food is worth.
There will be a short talk about why Cambridge Sustainable Food is holding the festival (and you can always talk to Foodcycle volunteers to learn more about their incredible story), plus a taster of all the other events.
Every year 18,000 tons of pumpkins end up in the bin in the UK, so do your bit to support Cambridge Pumpkin Festival.
