Though they’ve never bothered the charts much, the musical impact of The Jesus and Mary Chain – with their pioneering, feedback-heavy, white-noise utilising, dense sound – paved the way for everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Dinosaur Jr.
Formed in the early 80s, the band hails from East Kilbride in Scotland, and is based around a writing partnership between brothers Jim and William Reid. Heavily influenced by the likes of The Velvet Underground and The Stooges, as well as the grand soundscapes of Phil Spector and Brian Wilson, they secured cult status over the decades with albums such as Psychocandy, Darklands and Automatic. The band are back on the road in support of their latest studio album, Damage and Joy, which was released last month.
The Jesus and Mary Chain will be at Cambridge Junction on 3 April and tickets to the show are £32.50.
