The second instalment of the Culture Recovery Fund has ensured a safe future for two of Cambridge’s favourite venues
Both Cambridge Arts Theatre and Cambridge Junction have received a second instalment of funding from the government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund, securing the venues’ futures and ensuring they can reopen safely and imminently as restrictions ease.
Chief Executive at Cambridge Arts Theatre, Dave Murphy, said: “It has been a difficult year for the industry, but this vital grant will enable us to lift the curtain and launch our Summer 2021 season. We are working very hard to bring the theatregoers of Cambridgeshire a fantastic, varied and entertaining season and cannot wait to welcome our audiences back to our theatre once again.”

Matt Burman, Artistic Director at Cambridge Junction, said: “everyone at Cambridge Junction – our team, trustees, our resident companies, young participants and associate artists – are relieved and grateful for the funding we will receive from the Culture Recovery Fund.”
“We have continued to work with independent artists and inspiring young people, and engage with our audiences through the last year, and are looking forward to progressing our exciting plans to connect with communities, restart our live programmes and support the making of new projects, as we emerge from lockdown restrictions over the coming months.”
Cambridge Arts Theatre plans to announce its reopening date in the next couple of weeks, and Cambridge Junction hopes to return with a series of socially-distanced shows from 17 May, and larger capacity gigs and clubs from 21 June.
