The cello’s human voice comes alive when played by Nicolas Altstaedt, who brings out the colours of the instrument in the latest concert from the Academy of Ancient Music on 27 March.
He performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, a lost work for nearly 200 years until the ’60s, at West Road Concert Hall, in a work that stretches the form of the baroque concerto to its limits.
