Films, food and al fresco shopping at the Market Square
It only began in May, but Cambridge Night Market & Cinema, at the Market Square, has already become a bit of an institution, with the format of food, drink, family film and then something just a little more grown up on the big screen proving so popular it’s not only back on 29 September, but will return again next year.
The hits to savour this time are Oscar-winners Toy Story 3, which is first up, at 6.15pm, with the musical wonder of La La Land to follow at 8.15pm.
You can grab something delicious to eat and drink from one of the food vendors, who’ll be serving up treats all evening, as more than 50 local businesses will be setting up stalls on the night. Try Brazialian feijoada (black bean stew) from Neide’s, Dutch poffertjes (mini pancakes) from Kerief Catering, Algerian delicacies from Mediterranean Falafel or choice offerings from the Cambridge Scotch Egg Company. La Raza will be there too, with a fully licensed cocktail bar.
It’s a free event organised by Cambridge BID in association with Cambridge City Council, with limited, camping chair, seating watch the movies on a huge screen outside the Guildhall. Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early and/or bring their own chairs.
Ian Sandison, Chairman of Cambridge BID, said: “Whatever the weather, the Night Market and Outdoor Cinema have proved a huge hit with the local community and its businesses and visitors throughout the Summer. This may be the last event of the season, but there is clearly a huge demand for similar family-friendly, community-spirited events in the heart of Cambridge – and we will be responding accordingly with a new schedule of fun events in due course.”
Toy Story 3 won the Oscar for best animated picture in 2011, while La La Land won six Oscars earlier this year. Don’t miss it!
