TOOT: Be Here Now

The Leaches worked in the city for several generations as signwriters and artist-decorators, alongside Charles Kempe, William Morris and other famous designers of the day. Their untold story is set to feature as part of Open Cambrdige this weekend (13-14 Sept).

This collection of classes will attempt to bring back to life the skills they used. Try your hand at tile painting with Karen Jinks, using the tiles and motifs that adorn All Saints Church, or have a go at some Gothic calligraphy – suitable for all ages.

Or, get transfer printing with Mandy Knapp using paper shapes and paint (wear old clothes – this could get messy!).

Jill Fordham will also be on hand to teach stained glass and mosaic skills.

These will run throughout the day from 10.30am-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm, and a talk on how world cultures have influenced British design will follow at 5pm.
