Hot Numbers is packed with a wide range of events that’s just got tastier
Cambridge’s hotbed of coffee, culture and conversation, Gwydir Street’s Hot Numbers, has a packed programme of diverse events for May.
The film night is now a real flavour of the month, with themed food on offer for the first time for fans of the big screen.
Baked camembert paired with a French wine, plus onion soup are on offer for the first-Monday-of-the-month fixture, which this month (2 May) features The Intouchables, a classic of modern French cinema, from 2011. Doors open at 6.45pm.
Continuing the tastebud treats, three Saturdays feature their own Eat Cambridge event, as part of the city’s food festival.
On 7 May there’s coffee and chocolate tasting with Mama Bonbon, on 14 May there’s an Intro to Coffee Origins and Flavour Profiles and on 21 May, if you’re over 18, there’s Coffee Cocktails.

Hot Numbers hosts a different food van – Holy Schnitzel – on 12 May from 6 to 9pm, with regular vans Steak&Honour or The Wandering Yak outside on other Thursdays or Fridays.
For art fans, there’s an exhibition by Alice Thompson. Everyday Cambridge is previewed on 4 May, 7 to 9pm.
And as usual, Hot Numbers wouldn’t quite live up to its name without plenty of live music. May’s melodies will be provided by, among others, Nicolas Meir’s jazz guitar sounds on 5 May, Tom Braggins’s layers of guitars on 6 May, Iain Mann’s Gypsy Jazz, on 8 May and tenor saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos plays on 12 May.
Kiwi singer-songwriter Clara van Wel plays on 13 May, guitarist David Youngs strums on Sunday, 15 May.
Lady Nade and husband-and-wife duo Holmes & Bond provide folk tunes on 27 May and 29 May respectively.
That’s just a snapshot of what’s going on. Be sure to sample some flavours, aromas, visuals and sounds.
