This month, two must-see art exhibitions are coming to Openspace in Cherry Hinton, Cambridge. Offering different artistic perspectives, the paintings and sketches of both Julia Ball and Syd Barrett will be showcased in two exhibitions.
Syd Barrett 80th Birthday Celebration exhibition
Up first is a Syd Barrett 80th Birthday Celebration from 3 to 11 October. The exhibition will feature original paintings and sketches along with prints of larger works by the creative force who co- founded Pink Floyd and shaped the psychedelic rock scene.
The exhibition will also include work by contemporary artists honouring Syd’s life. This includes his nephew Ian Barrett, Mark Wilkinson, Spadge Hopkins, Mikey Georgeson, Rob Martin and James Wilkinson.
Julia Ball exhibition at Openspace
Then, on the weekends of 17 to 18 October, 24 to 25 October and 31 October to 1 November, you can catch a Julia Ball exhibition. This second exhibition offers a rare chance to see a selection of large paintings by this influential abstract artist.
Ball is known for distilling the landscapes of East Anglia into pure, luminous fields of colour. These will be shown alongside supporting study material exploring Julia’s process towards the finished work.
