Amidst the current crisis, many of the city’s restaurants are transforming into takeaways so you can still get your hands on their fabulous food
Brix + Mortar
With their new takeaway service available from today, Brix + Mortar at Provenance Kitchen is giving you access to their delicious menu at home. The service is available Wednesday through Saturday at 12pm until 2pm, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm until 8pm. You can also order your Sunday roast for take away from 12 – 2.30pm, as well as accompanying wines, beers and soft drinks to complete your home dining experience. Call the restaurant on 01223839993 to order.
The Haymakers
The Haymakers pub is now delivering pizza at lunch and dinner times to the local Chesterton area. You can order and pay for everything over the phone by calling 01223311077, and if you prefer or need no contact, just let them know and they can leave your food by the door. They’re also offering to deliver pints from Milton Brewery, and there’s even the option to order a polypin – that’s 32 pints! – which as long as it’s kept cool should easily last a week or two.

The Old Crown
The Old Crown in Girton usually plays host to visitors looking for a relaxed way to complete their family day out, but has recently adapted to the current circumstances to offer a takeaway service. Their takeaway offering includes a variety of delicious Italian pasta dishes, as well as the classic Crown Burger and pizza selection. Take a look at the menu over on The Old Crown’s Instagram, and order on 01223277217.
Vanderlyle
Dinners in demand would probably be a more fitting title for any other mention of Vanderlyle (as the restaurant is usually booked up months in advance), so the announcement of a Vanderlyle To Go service is certainly causing a stir. You can order a regularly changing menu of family meals – available for two or four people – for collection via Tock, or the restaurant’s famous Vanderlyle Salad to go. The restaurant is also acting as a pick-up point for some of the city’s finest food producers, including Afternoon Tease, Calverley’s Brewery, Flourish Produce, Wylde Sky Brewing and Thorne Wines. Pick-up times are available throughout the day, and the restaurant will be open seven days a week.
The Plough
Serving up locally-sourced, seasonal food, this rustic-smart gastropub is ready to take on the challenge of the coronavirus. The Plough‘s takeaway menu includes pizzas, pasta and pub grub favourites, such as fish and chips and sausage and mash. All orders are available for collection, although a delivery option is also available for those living in surrounding areas. You can find the takeaway menu on The Plough’s Instagram, and order by calling 01954210489.
Cambridge Cookery
Starting today, Cambridge Cookery is launching a delivery service, offering to drop off selected items from their daily counter outside your door, as well as meals from their evening menus. In addition to this, you can also get an exclusive ‘double your money’ voucher: purchase online now, and you can claim twice the voucher’s value when you come to use it. Keep an eye on their social media, too, as they will also be posting cookery classes on Facebook and Twitter.
Don Pasquale
Long-established as a hub of Italian fine dining in the heart of Cambridge, locals will be pleased to hear that Don Pasquale is offering a takeaway menu at the moment. Their traditional and fresh pizzas and pastas are much-loved in the city, and you can now order them to your home. Call 01223367063 to order for home delivery or collection – and you can also pick up dried pasta, tinned goods and coffee, if you’ve been unable to get any in the shops.
The Garden Kitchen
The Garden Kitchen has just introduced their meal delivery service, and will be delivering honest, fresh, homemade food for you to heat up from home or work. They have a range of lunches, dinners, cakes and soft drinks to choose from, and orders can be placed via the website or by calling The Garden Kitchen (Mill Road) directly on 01223315205. The delivery service will officially be available from Monday 23 March, but you can start ordering in advance now. Orders need to be placed before 3pm to get free next day delivery in the CB1-5 postcode area, with a minimum spend of £20.
