Histon has welcomed a hip new cafe with the arrival of Station House, a spot serving brunches, lunches and hot drinks. It’s the brainchild of David Harrison, who brings a wealth of experience from the Cambridge hospitality scene, having worked with favourites including The Boot, Giggling Squid and Cambscuisine, but says the inspiration to open his own place came out of the blue. “Back in January, I walked past the place with my daughter – it was a building site then – and she asked what it was going to be. I told her it was going to be a cafe, as I’d seen the planning permission,” he recalls. “And she decided it was going to be our cafe!”
Expect fluffy French toast with berries, hearty shakshuka, waffles, fry-ups and more
The six year old then spent the rest of the afternoon ‘designing’ a cafe for her school art project, while David reached out to Bidwells and discovered the site had not yet been leased. Things moved quickly, and a few months later, the space has been beautifully renovated and the doors are open. Serving brunch-style dishes all day, visitors can expect fluffy French toast with berries, hearty shakshuka, waffles, fry-ups and more, plus Hot Numbers coffee to drink – keep your eye out for his daughter’s original design, too, which is pride of place on the wall.
