Bringing a twist to the classic curry house format is Tawa Kitchen, a new Station Road eatery specialising in casual Indian-style dishes that take inspiration from regional flavours and recipes. “I’ve loved watching the city grow into a buzzing hub for new and exciting independent cafes. The only thing missing is a fresh take on Indian cuisine,” explains founder Vilas Patel.

“Our food moves away from the format of stereotypical Indian restaurants serving heavy dishes of curry and rice. What we eat at home, and what we offer at Tawa, is largely plant-based, nutritious and created to fuel you through your day.” The cafe’s food is cooked mostly on tawas – flat, round frying pans – and the chai bar features blends from the classic to the quirky.
