French first won the hearts of the British public in the late 1980s with TV show French and Saunders, which she starred in with her long-term sidekick Jennifer Saunders. The pair met at drama school, though they didn’t hit it off instantly, with French thinking Saunders was stuck up and Saunders describing French as ‘a cocky little upstart’. Before long, however, they were best buds and sharing a flat – and so comedy history was made.
Since then, French has been a regular presence on our screens, most notably as the hilarious, Sean Bean-obsessed vicar Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley – regularly voted one of the (if not THE) UK’s best-loved sitcom. Who can forget the Christmas pud episode? Or the one where Alice gives birth in a stable? Classics, both.
The new show, which runs 29-30 November, will see the comedienne taking the audience through the delights and tribulations of her life (all 30 million minutes of it), offering some life lessons – in the inimitable, laugh-a-minute French style. Tickets start at £37.50.
As a special treat, here’s French and Saunders’ brilliant Mamma Mia! spoof for Comic Relief:
