The husband and wife team released their album of the same name earlier this year, and is being hailed as their boldest musical statement to date.
The Roberts-Lakeman name has become synonymous with quality during their musical careers, which started when they were signed to a major label as teenagers. Now after nearly two decades in music, Kathryn’s sublime vocals merge seemlesly with Sean’s deft and inventive live guitar work on stage – and his award-winning sonic skills in the studio.
In addition to his chart-topping hit records for brother Seth Lakeman, Sean has this year alone produced albums or tracks with The Levellers, Billy Bragg, Frank Turner, Imelda May and Bellowhead, as well as a string of other folk/acoustic acts.
Support on the night comes from aspiring folk music talent, Hattie Briggs.
Mature beyond her 21 years, and with musical influences including Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, Hattie dropped out of Oxford in her second year to pursue her love of music. Since then, she has been played on BBCs 1, 2, and 6Music, and been nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. On 6 April this year she released her debut album Red & Gold, preceded by the single A Beautiful Mind.
Red & Gold also includes a cover of Eva Cassidy’s Fields Of Gold, produced by Eva’s brother, Dan Cassidy. Dan got in contact with Hattie to tell her how much he loved her cover of his sister’s song, and eventually was persuaded to feature extensively on her debut album.
Hattie was last in Cambridge at the Portland Arms in January, and makes a return visit on 26 April, stepping up to play the J2 stage at Cambridge Junction in support of Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.
