Romance and quiet bravery define this wartime drama, written by celebrated playwright Terence Rattigan (The Winslow Boy, The Browning Version).
The story takes us back to 1942, where RAF pilot Teddy and his wife Patricia’s marriage is put to the test by the surprise arrival of her ex-lover, Peter. It paints an emotional portrait of wartime Britain, from both the men on the front to the wives and sweethearts awaiting their return, and is based in part on Rattigan’s own experiences as a tail gunner in the Second World War.
Flare Path celebrates the 70th anniversary of VE Day and comes to Cambridge Arts Theatre 28 September-3 October, starring Philip Franks (Heartbeat), Olivia Hallinan (Lark Rise to Candleford) and Leon Ockenden (Mr Selfridge).
The Guardian described it as ‘overwhelmingly moving’ while Churchill himself, who saw it in 1942, said ‘I was very moved by this play. It is a masterpiece’.
