The cast has been announced for this year’s family pantomime, Cinderella, at Cambridge Arts Theatre – revealing a medly musical theatre talent.
Fresh from her role as Glinda in the Australasian production of Wicked, Suzie Mathers will step into the fabled glass slipper as Cinderella. Suzie also played Sophie in the 10th anniversary of Mamma Mia.
Joining her is Steven Butler (The Wizard of Oz, London Palladium) as Cinderella’s best friend Buttons, while Jonathan D Ellis and Daniel Goode will be camping it up as the despicable Ugly Sisters.
Sprinkling some magical pantomime fairy dust as the Fairy Godmother is Rosemary Ashe, whose extensive West End credits include the original production of The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins and Les Misérables. She originated the title role of Viv in Spend Spend Spend for its premiere at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and was nominated for an Olivier award for the role of Felicia Gabriel in the world premiere production of The Witches of Eastwick.
Completing the cast is returnee Richard Earl (Aladdin, Robin Hood) as Baron Hardup, Laura Darton (Dreamboats and Miniskirts) as the Prince and Jennifer Potts (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) as the Prince’s trusty sidekick Dandini. Performing alongside the cast are an all-singing, all-dancing ensemble of professional dancers and 20 talented local children aged 9 – 13 as ‘Panto Babes’, following open auditions held in September.
