Alfresco drinking spot opens for new season at new site
In news that will come to music of the ears of Cambridge’s beer lovers, drinks shop Thirsty is bringing its wildly popular Biergarten back for the summer of 2019. Opening to punters on Easter weekend, this season’s location is Mackay’s on East Road, which was the site of one of Thirsty’s first forays into outdoor events back in winter 2016.
As ever, you can expect fantastic beer, wine and cocktails, along with appearances from some of the city’s best-loved street food traders, including Guerrilla Kitchen and Steak & Honour. There will also be great tunes and plenty of seating and space to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, possibly some fireworks, and even, we’re told, a snow machine.
The food trader line-up for Good Friday (hatches open 6 to 10pm) is Guerrilla Kitchen, famed for their bao buns and all-round fab Asian yumminess, as well as Mexican delights from Al Chile. On Easter Saturday (food from 5.30 to 9.30pm) it’s those purveyors of gooey near-legendary burgers Steak & Honour, and Proper Pizza, who promise an Easter special. On 21 April (Easter Sunday), there’s more dough from Proper Pizza, who’ll be serving from 1 till 9pm.
The Biergarten is child and dog friendly and gets underway at 4.30pm on Good Friday, 5.30pm on Easter Saturday and 1pm on Easter Sunday.
Plans are unconfirmed at present but Thirsty may be pitching up here for the whole summer, and they’re also planning to spawn new Biergartens elsewhere in the city as well, so keep an eye out! Go to Thirsty’s Twitter @ThirstyCamb for the latest updates.
